This is the first Freehand release from Macromedia; FreeHand 5.0 with updaters 5.0.1 and 5.0.2.
This archive contains the floppy installation version of FreeHand 5.0.x imaged back in the day. Unfortunately, I no longer have these original diskettes, but I do have the images (hence the Disk Copy 6.3.3 format). Hopefully this helps folks.
- Top DL: FreeHand 5.0 installer set as Disk Copy 6 (compressed format) images in StuffIt 5.5 compatible "sit" archive enclosed in ".hqx" wrapper.
- Minimum requirements for 68k Macintosh:
- Macintosh: 68020 CPU
- Monitor: Any
- System Software: 6.0.7
- Unused RAM: 8 MB [*]
- Minimum requirements for PPC Macintosh:
- Macintosh: PPC CPU
- Monitor: Any
- System Software: 7.1.2
- Unused RAM: 8 MB + Virtual Memory On
[*] The recommended RAM setting for FreeHand 5.0 is 8MB but with a Mac II's (Mini vMac II) memory ceiling of 8MB total RAM, this is not doable. I find that reducing the default RAM allocation for FreeHand 5.0 from 8MB to 6MB when running it in Mini vMac, is OK.
INSTALLING FREEHAND 5.0 ON SYSTEM 6
When installing on System 6, an inordinate amount of disk swapping is called for. To get around this just drag the files from each installation disk into a folder on your hard disk. Double-click the first Installer segment to begin the installation. When finished, delete the “FreeHand 5.0 Installer.x” files to get your hard disk space back.— Tip: From enclosed "ReadMe" doc
